Travel by train from Geneva (Geneve) to Zurich

Switzerland is very well connected by train and distances between cities will not take longer than 4 hours at the most. The average duration for 1 Swiss rail connection is 2.5 hours.

Reservations for this Swiss rail connection can be avoided, and that will give you much more freedom to travel. If you miss one train, just hop on the next one. Reservations are optional, and aren't included in your travel package. There is a large number of trains running between major Swiss cities frequently and it should not be a problem to find a seat. However, if you would still like to ensure yourself a seat, reservations for some trains an be made directly at the train stations.

Travel by train from Switzerland to Italy by scenic train

Take this impressive train journey across the Swiss Alps, enjoy the stunning natural scenery, and end it in Milan, the North of Italy, all in one day. We recommend leaving early in the morning from Zurich, and believe us when we tell you that the early start is totally worth it!

This journey is composed of 3 trains:
Information Train 1:

Departure station: Zurich Hb
Arrival station: Chur
Total Duration: 1.5 hours approximately
Type of train: Intercity. No reservation needed.

As we mentioned above, we recommend leaving early in the morning from Zurich.

Information Train 2: Bernina Express Route

Once you arrive in Chur, make your way down to Tirano (Italy). Here, you can choose between two options: traveling in regional trains or take the Bernina Express panoramic train. You might be wondering which train to pick... Below you will find some practical information that will help you decide:

The Bernina Express Panoramic train requires a seat reservation, which can be made locally or online, at the Bernina Express website.

Will I be able to enjoy the same scenery, regardless which train I take? Yes!
Both trains have the same route, the only difference is that with regional trains you will have to change trains once or twice, but this will give you the possibility to discover the charming villages along the way.

Once in Italy, take the last train connection of the day and make your way to Milan. Spend the night in the Italian city and let the amazing experience you just had, settle in.

Practical info about this trip

There are two main airports in Paris: Orly (ORY) and Charles de Gaulle (CDG).

How to get from Paris Orly to the city centre?:

  • By bus/airport shuttle Air France (available for passengers of any airline). Buy your ticket online here.
  • By taxi: price between €40 - 50 approximately.

How to get from Paris Charles de Gaulle to the city centre?:

  • By train: The easiest and cheapest way to get into the centre of Paris. Take: RER B (blue) train line from terminals 2 and 3. Heading in the direction of: Robinson, Antony or St-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse. Tickets one way: €9.25. You can buy the tickets from one of the blue ticket machines (not yellow machines, as they sell only TGV tickets) or from a rail agent in a booth. Journey time: 50 minutes approximately. The train will stop at the main train stations in Paris such as Gare du Nord.
  • By bus/Roissybus: They run every 15 to 20 minutes daily. Tickets one way: €9.25. You can buy the tickets on the bus; paying with cash is the only payment method accepted. Journey time: Up to an hour.
  • Night buses (N140 and N143): run 7 days a week. Tickets one way: €5.70. You can buy the tickets on the bus.
  • By bus/airport shuttle Air France (available for passengers of any airline). Buy your ticket online here.
  • By taxi: price around € 50 approximately.

 

The main airport in Rome is Leonardo Da Vinci Airport (better known as Fiumicino):

Travelers on intercontinental flights will arrive at / leave from this airport, situated 30 km away from the city.

How to get to the city centre from Fiumicino and back:

By bus/ private shuttle:
Airport Connection Services (Shuttle Bus): It will take you directly from Fiumicino Airport to the city centre. Price: From € 27 For more information, see here.

Regular Public Buses:

Single ride: €48 aprox. Tip: Try to catch a ‘Comune di Roma’ taxi, as the taxis registered at Fiumicino Airport are more expensive.
