Travel to Hamburg, Germany

A buzzing maritime affair

Nicknamed as Germany’s ‘Gateway to the World’, Hamburg is a captivating city inspired by the world at sea. Connected to the North Sea by the Elbe River, the city has an important maritime heritage, dating back to 1189. Get a taste of this trade in the dynamic Fischmarkt, where market sellers shout a chorus of goods. Cruise through the rows of towering red-brick warehouses of Speicherstadt, the largest warehouse area in the world. Now a buzzing urban district, with hip cafes, restaurants and shops, it is a UNESCO Heritage Site not to be missed. Visit the Chilehaus in the Kantorhaus district, with its remarkable curved walls and ship-like architecture (built in 1924). See the world from a giant’s point of view at the Miniature Wonderland, the largest model railway in the world! Or take the glass elevator up the spire of the St. Nicholas Church, for an expansive view of the city and its imposing harbour.
